Every once in a while, you encounter a fellow human who leaves you scratching your head in disbelief – often while muttering to yourself about terrible childhoods making unhappy adults. This is one of those tales told through the lens of Hubster, a man of patience who rarely feels the need to moan about his fellow humans.

It all started with my breakfast request of pancakes and sausage.

Hubster was sent to the local McDonald’s to fulfill my burning desire for breakfast foods. There’s just one problem with the meal – you get three pancakes and only one sausage. You see, I am what you would call a fat kid. I like food and food likes me. I also like even numbers, cutting each pancake into eight pieces like you would a pie. I cut the circle sausage the same way, leaving me with 24 bites of pancake, but only 8 bites of sausage.

Toddlers have gone to war over breakfast problems like this.

Unfortunately, McDonald’s lady took issue with Hubster’s ordering method. He foolishly asked for the pancake platter with two extra sausages, which she marked on the computer before instructing him to pull up to the window to pay. It was there that Hubster sensed there was a problem. McDonald’s lady reprimanded Hubster, telling him he was ‘ordering this in this stupidest way possible.’

Hubster replied with his classic ‘Oh.’ He is a man of few words.

He handed his card to McDonald’s lady, unaware of what to say in response to being called stupid. McDonald’s lady then told him that if he ordered the pancake meal and two sausage biscuits, hold the biscuits, he would leave the restaurant with the exact same meal. However, he would pay half price for those precious extra two sausages that keep peace in the Land of Heather. Hubster is always happy to save money while achieving marital harmony. He asked McDonald’s lady to please do the order that way.

McDonald’s lady was not in the mood for these wild shenanigans.

Instead, McDonald’s lady told Hubster he could save the money next time, then she swiped his card for the higher amount.

I gave you a moment to collect yourself, I’m sure the utter shock rendered you momentarily unable to read more words. And yes, you read that correctly. A worker informed Hubster he was stupid, told him how she could save him multiple dollars on his meal, then denied his request to do so because she… didn’t feel like it?!

Hubster came home and recounted this tale to me, allowing multiple pauses for me to curse heartily. Since Hubster is not one to exaggerate, I do wonder how much nastier McDonald’s lady would have appeared to the rest of us. I also wonder what you, my dear readers, would have done in this situation.

I would have crawled through the drive thru window to talk to a manager.

  1. Sounds like someone really loves their job, I used to be a registered child minder and loved every minute, until I was sadly forced to give up due to ill health #globalblogging@_karendennis

  2. OMG, she sounds like she sits there, hating the world, and wondering how she might avenge herself on it… I suggest she run for the White House instead next time she is looking for her ideal job, cause this sounds like a certain president’s Twitter method!!

  3. Fast Food was my first job. Wendy’s to be exact. I never worked at McDonald’s and fortunately the one in my neighborhood is very good but I have seen and known employees who absolutely hate their job so much that this kind of behavior comes out naturally. Based on personal experience it’s not the best work environment that’s for sure but I definitely would not have left without parking my ass inside the building and demanding to speak to a manager, filing a former complaint against the lady. Maybe she was having a bad day but when you work for the public you simply cannot behave that way to the customers, no matter how tempted you may be. I’m sorry the hubby had such a negative experience there. #AnythingGoes

    1. I’m glad he’s very good-natured, because he took it in stride. I told him to chalk it up to her having a bad day but if he gets her again and she does anything like that, it’s probably time to say something to the manager.

      1. He does sound like a very good-natured person but he didn’t deserve to be spoken to like. I hope you guys have had better experiences though since then. Popping back from #GlobalBlogging

  4. Your husbands sounds like mine who just let things slide sometimes. I on the other hand would not have left it there. First of all the attitude and then the cheek to tell him about the half price deal but then to charge him the full price – really what happened to excellent customer service? Does it even exist these days #globalblogging

  5. I am with you on the I love food and it loves me and also on the even numbers (it was very hard to stop at 3 children!!!!!!!!)
Your hubby sounds like such a sweetheart, and I think she is horrible for calling anyone stupid, it is just mean and rude and I think management should absolutely be notified! So happy you stopped by to link up #ABloggingGoodTime

    1. Calling him stupid is where I would’ve drawn the line and asked for a manager immediately. We don’t know all of the complexities of the menu, we just told them we wanted to eat. Silly us I guess 🙄

  6. Oh it is the worst thing when you end up on the receiving end of one of those employees who hate their jobs and therefore hate you more because you don’t have to do it! If you are unlucky enough you will feel their wrath, as your poor hubby did. Absolutely ridiculous. I would have been fuming too! If you’re anything like me you would have made threats that you are never going back there again but once you have calmed down you will of course go back. But I wouldn’t let her away with it. If either of you come up against her again I would strike this time and go straight to management to make a complaint. Grrrr!!!! #ablogginggoodtime

    1. I’m so lucky that we have another McDonald’s on the other side of our house, it is just 1 mile further from the one I was going to. So when I say I’m never going back, I can actually live up to it because I’ll go to the other one 🤣
