Lola has decided to wage a campaign to get me to love spring. She loves everything about the season, while I pray that winter will never end. I love cold weather, dark days, and the excuse to live in pajamas. Sadly, spring marks the end of all of that. Since I’m an optimistic person by nature, I’ve dug deep to find five things I could look forward to…maybe.

Opening the windows and letting in air.

Sure, that air is full of pollen that makes my eyes watery and my nose itchy. And yes, the wind creates a dust nightmare on every piece of furniture. On second thought, this is not a reason to love spring. I’m sorry, I tried.

Cleaning the house and decluttering your life.

I love to declutter! Then two days into the nightmare I can’t find anything and my back hurts. Hubster is yelling because I’ve decluttered his favorite clothing. I also realize I have no shoes to wear because I hastily got rid of all my cold weather shoes. Spring, you are really sapping my strength to live.

The days get longer.

Oh look, the sun is still up at 7pm. I’m going to get so much accomplished! Then the sun comes up at 5 in the morning and you realize that this season is just a big joke played by the universe on those of us who love to sleep. Reason 3 to not love spring, noted.

All the baby animals are born.

Awwww. Bunnies, duckies and squirrel babies! I just want to kiss them all. Wait. What’s that?! Rat babies. Bear babies. Bat babies. Skunk babies. You see how not all babies are awesome? Spring doesn’t only give you the cute ones. The worst of them all – spider babies. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

Spring fashion replaces big coats.

All the pastels, tank tops, and capri pants are back in season. Goodbye to the heavy fabrics of winter. The fabrics that hide belly fat. The fabrics that smooth out any lumpy bits from the cake I had for dessert. The fabrics that compliment my figure instead of clinging to every area like moss on a stone. Oh no. We’ve made a horrible mistake.

                    1. Oh! Ours lasts for about a month to 6 weeks and we definitely hit high 90s during that time – high 30s for Celsius. I think that’s why when I say I’m from Hawai’i but I don’t like heat, it really confuses people. Hawai’i stays the same throughout the year with about a 10 degree difference between our highs and lows, the average being mid 70s- which is low 20s Celsius. So it sounds like I would do OK in Ireland because your summer temps are still lower. It’s really the high temperature combined with the sun that make it unbearable for me.

  1. But the sun comes out and you can hide bleary eyes/crows feet/hungover eyes behind sunglasses. (And discreetly stare at people better too). I am in Camp Spring. #DreamTeam

  2. Wait, what? I DO love spring for all of the reasons that you give. I didn’t realize at first that you were being sarcastic. Please don’t wish spring and summer away! I long for spring all winter. 🙂

  3. Thanks for the chuckle. Although warmer weather means I can take some nice hikes which helps in the belly regions! #dreamteam

  4. We’ve had an invasion of baby spiders on the trampoline much to the childrens horror. My 4 year old boy quickly sorted it out though……….#dreamteam

  5. Awww it’s not that bad… I like the way the dust bunnies get blow around by the breeze from the open windows rather than hiding under the sofa. Some even make it outside. I like the way my top dries quickly when milk explodes down it. I love the way washing dries quickly outside. And I do like all of the lovely flowers despite the pollen. #dreamteam

  6. Winter is only 7 days away (for us) want to swap? I am not a big fan of the shorter days and darkness by 6pm I much prefer long summer nights… #DreamTeam

  7. I’m a winter person – my husband and daughters love spring and summer. Understandable as the weather is pleasant during those seasons but winter is a time to hibernate, to snuggle, to relax, to eat comfort food, to cover up with layers and not worry about your body image. My logic is that I save for money during winter as I’m home bound most of the time – spring and summer you tend to spend more #dreamteam

  8. I normally bow down to your words of wisdom, but I’m not with you on this one. We have just hit winter here in Australia and sometimes the temperature gets down below 20 C. It’s truly awful. BRING ON SPRING! #GlobalBlogging
