A while back, I posted a recipe for the traditional Snickerdoodle. It was wildly popular! This week I’ve decided to post an update to that recipe with this chocolate version. I am calling these doodles because the very essence of a snickerdoodle is the cinnamon topping, which these cookies don’t have.
1 cup butter, room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
5 TBSP sugar
Mixer with paddle attachment
Old-fashioned ice cream scoop
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix butter, sugar, vanilla, and eggs in mixing bowl until well blended.
In large bowl combine the flour, cocoa powder, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add to the mixing bowl until blended.
Chill dough in refrigerator for 15 minutes.
Scoop dough into balls and roll each one into the sugar you set aside earlier. Place on cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes and then remove from pan immediately.
Superhero Tip: Add a cup of chocolate chips to dough for extra yum.
Second Superhero Tip: Add a cup of peanut butter chips to show your family you love them more than the dog…almost.
