Things took a turn for the worse last night. I had a wonderful barbecue with great friends and we played a board game. I love board games, nothing is better than moving a plastic man around a game board as I laugh maniacally and rub my hands together. However, this board game did not turn out that well. You see, I played Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?
It turns out, I am NOT smarter than a fifth grader.
I did pretty well, but my teammate and I were eventually flummoxed by the simplest question. It was true or false. Buzz Aldrin was not the first person to walk on the moon. We said false.
We got it wrong. In our defense, he was on the exact same spaceflight as the guy who touched the moon first, so it’s easy to become discombobulated. The way the question is phrased leads you to somehow doubt everything you know to be true until you are no longer sure someone even walked on the moon. We even used a cheat and the other team answered false also!
Somehow, I still don’t feel better.
What did make me feel better was that the fifth grader who was playing with us was not smarter than a fifth grader. Here’s a note about the game, it’s Canadian so you will have to answer a lot of questions about Canadian government. Yeah. My school didn’t really cover any of that, and if they did, I was busy eating a cupcake and couldn’t hear them.
I’m going back to Monopoly!

It’s a Canadian game? I don’t remember being taught any Canadian history in school either so I would also probably fail lol.

We found out it was Canadian as we played! We were so confused why half of the questions were about the Canadian government. And then we looked at the back of the box and it says Hasbro Canada. Which is perfectly fine, but none of us were prepared to know that much stuff about another country!

I bet. I wouldn’t have been prepared either

I certainly wouldn’t be able to answer any questions on the Canadian government so I’d be useless at this game! Thx for linking up to #GlobalBlogging and making me laugh.

Game nights are the best. Although I would have no idea with Canadian politics so we’ll stick to Monopoly in our house I think #BloggerClubUK

We just bought a new Monopoly board – it’s the original game board and pieces. It looks so cool!

I love board games and this sounds right up my street, however, being in the UK I def wouldn’t have a clue about Canadian politics! Sounds like they have some sneakily worded questions too…!

It was frustrating for sure!

I haven’t attempted this game because I already know I am not smarter than a 5th grader. I have promptly forgotten everything I learned in school besides typing and addition lol Thanks for joining us lovely xx

We have had to ban most board games in this household because they cause far too many arguments. I wouldnt know anything about Canada either. #dreamteam

Board games are now banned from our house after I pulled out a legendary killer finishing word with just a “Q” in scrabble. The husband has never got over it. 😂 x

Hubster won’t even play scrabble with my mother or me.

Board games with the family are fun, board games with my friends get incredibly competitive. I love it (so long as I’m winning!)

Ah this used to be a TV show over here in the UK except I think it was “Are you smarter than a 10 year old?” I agree – the phrasing of the question was very discombobulating! #blogcrush

My money is on Neil Armstrong… and I only have a 4th grader and a first grader… Canada seems like a good place to be. Monopoly is kill, or be killed. #fortheloveofBLOG

my daughter is still a bit young for any board game that would interest me, but I look forward to destroying her in Monopoly and Risk in a few years #anythinggoes

Ah Monopoly. The game where kids realize their parents have been holding back all these years!

We are total board game geeks. We have a hundred of them! Over the years we’ve hosted many game nights and occasionally things get ugly. It’s fun afterwards but at the time when someone wrongs you and you’re trying so hard to win … *fumes*

It makes you question your friendships while you play. We eat dessert afterwards so we all like each other again!

I’d suck so bad at that game! Monopoly is my jam. Mostly because I’ always the banker and like any banker, I skim off the top. Shhh. 😉

we love Monopoly , its our go to game when our son is home from uni. all our board games have running score sheets in them dating back to when Son was first able to play (so about 3) in monopoly we note down the number of hotels and amount of cash the winner has.
